Close of Service (COS) Conference, Group 2!

We’re group 2, serving in the Kingdom of Cambodia! I think of compassion, adventure, and enthusiasm and a lot of fond memories with all these people, and of course from individual staff and I really hope to remember the stories of our everyday learning experiences with Cambodians we shared throughout our conference.

At the COS conference, two volunteers sang a duet, Aladdin’s “A Whole New World” with those esoteric, Cambodian Peace Corps Volunteer details, and I burst into tears thinking how far we’ve come, and especially thinking of the first days together where we sang songs about being in our training villages–the esteem we held our toughest 3 months of readjustment and noting on the beauty we found in helping others and learning about a new culture; our song then was called “Boribo Buffalo!” and it was about 15 of us jumping around making volleyball gestures, buffalo horns with our hands, but we were totally outclassed by the amazing other team, who rapped about sao mao (rambutan) with Fresh Prince of Belair beats. But we had so much fun!

Of course, we had some boring but important stuff to jot down about admin, health and program check-out processes, but it was such a special thing to see everyone.

We’ve aged, 2 years older, and now that we’ve gotten to know each other, and all have an unique path to start on, making it so hard to say goodbye.

It’s a blessing to be able to facebook, call, or e-mail everyone after service.It’s also lovely have a big group of about 40 so we have such a big family to talk to–whether we’re in the mood and feel nostalgic or need someone who really understands what it’s like to be abroad again or in America, going through the culture shock again. It takes time, but it’s nice to know someone in the same boat.

Okay, I have just a short time left now to say good bye and finish projects! I have to be on my way again.
